Opening nationwide this week are an interesting mix of films.
Dinner for Schmucks
A delightfully bizarre and unfunny comedy from the previews I have seen or maybe I need to reevaluate my taste in films, because it seems that I have some taste after all. This movie is another in a long line of tripe that Hollyweird has been putting out lately and hoping that the stars will draw in the masses. If you like mindless gags and inane comedy then this one might be for you but I think I am going to pass on this one.
Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore
If you have children this might be a fun film for them but I don't think adults will enjoy it that much. Of course talking animals can be fun but if that's not your bag then you might want to consider waiting for DVD for this one.
Charlie St. Cloud
An intriguing film about dealing with grief over the loss of a loved one and the conflict that ensues. This one looks like a decent film and while I usually shy away from dramas, I might watch this one.
A blog about the motion picture industry and the product it produces by a fan that enjoys the cinema. Every so often I will review the current movies from a general public point of view, allowing a casual viewer to have a better understanding of what the movie is about as well as my honest opinion of it.

Previews Of Spies and Sisters
Opening this week nationwide is a couple of new films that couldn't be more different.
Salt
A twist on the spy genre that is not without plausability. It seems that spies are back in fashion. Of course Angelina Jolie is no Sean Connery and Salt is no James Bond it does look like an action packed thriller. As a fan of both Mrs. Jolie and Action films, I might go see this one in the theater.
Ramona and Beezus
I am kind of a closet Selena Gomez fan but this film looks a little more bizarre than even for her. Of course I am not a teen girl and these sorts of movies targeting them have no interest to me it does look like a fairly decent story about the life of these eccentric sisters. If you have tween girls or are just into this sort of drama it might be worth a look for you.
I have heard nothing but good things about Inception and the more I hear the more I'm thinking it will be a well worth watching. If you have seen it or are holding out, I have to tell you just based on my friends opinions and the previews it sounds like a really good film even disregarding the lack of what the overall plot is about not being revealed in any print or the previews.

Of Magic and Dreams
This week brings us two very different movies The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Inception. Now being a economic conscience individual I went to the one that was being paid for by someone else. So I ended up watching the Sorcerer's Apprentice. As soon as I watch Inception I will have some insight about it I'm sure but on to the previews.
The following previews were on the front of the movie only after about 5 minutes of commercials and ads for the theater (I don't know about you but I hardly think that this is necessary with the prices they charge).
Tangled
Due out Nov 24th this revision of Rapunzel might but Disney animation studios back in the running for quality films and rely less on pixar to carry them. It looks interesting and I'll probably go see it when it releases.
Nanny McPhee Returns
Due out Aug 20th this children's tale might be enjoyable fun for the whole family as I don't have any young kids it doesn't interest me otherwise.
Secritariat
Due out Oct 1st this biopic of the longshot horse winning the triple crown in 1973 could be the sleeper hit of the summer. I might actually watch this one.
Chronicles of Narnia: The voyage of the Dawn Treader
Due out December 10th I am looking forward to this one almost as much as the previous editions. Hopefully it will live up to the hype.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows
The long awaited finale to the franchise should be one of the best in the series and being a fan I'm sure I will try and enjoy it and will definitely see this one in the theater. Part I is scheduled for a Nov 19th release. Just in time for Thanksgiving! Part II will will have to wait until July 15th, 2011 but worth it overall I think.
All the new releases will be in 3D unfortunately and thankfully they will also be available in 2D which I prefer. I fail to understand the philosophy behind the 3D movement but if Hollyweird wants to push this I guess its their right.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
As the movie started I watched in anticipation of a potential letdown. I was glad to be disappointed in this regard. The story was better than anticipated and the movie was truly and engaging and entertaining film. While it may not be a blockbuster or an Oscar nominated film it has its moments and is good family fun. The PG rating may make some parents shy away and I do admit that some of the special effects while cool to see may scare younger children as well as some of the action scenes. Although the MPAA says there is some brief language I failed to detect any significant use of it but I would caution those parents with little ones to keep these things in mind when considering this movie. I was worried that this movie would fall into the wooden acting category as there seems to be a lot of green screen usage in the film but I was mildly surprised that it didn't seem to have that big of an effect.
Nicholas Cage shined in this film greater than he has in recent films while I like the National Treasure Franchise the Book of Secrets was not as good as the first (most sequels usually aren't but this one should have been better). Hopefully if there is a sequel to Apprentice it will be bigger and better than the first. As an actor some people see him as a hit or miss kind of guy but I personally think he is underrated for his talent. He definitely has the chops and they show in this film.
Alfred Molina, what can I say that hasn't already been said, he is a talented and charismatic actor and plays the bad guy role very well (if you need even more proof just watch Spider-Man 2). Hopefully they recast him in the sequel if there is one.
Overall a very entertaining movie and I would definitely watch it again.
Entertainment: 4
Family-Friendly: 3
Special Effects: 4

Overall: 4
As of this writing the movie was in 3rd place. I'm sure the 1st and 2nd place movies are worth the watching as well and when I have the time and money I may see them also.

And so it begins...
I'll be the first to admit that this is a strange and interesting turn of events for me. I have always enjoyed movies and own quite a large amount of them in various formats but to actively write about what I enjoy so much has eluded me for quite some time. I always thought that the critics were there to guide us in our choices at the movies and recently they have let me down. Critics (it seems) are there to guide you to the movies that will garner them the most acclaim or even just to pump up a movies attendance for whatever reason they so choose but being a long time fan of movies (including those old black and whites as well as some silent films). I feel that people of all walks of life and experiences for one reason or another hate critics views about the movies they love.
The reason I started this blog is for the average viewer of movies. Its merely a tool for me to express my opinion about movies and to show you the moviegoer what movies have been released and in my humble opinion whats worth paying your hard earned money for and what is not. At the end of every review I will have a scale of 1-5 on various things I find important to me when I go and see a movie. A rating of 1 is the worst kind of rating it indicates if the movie falls short and a rating of 5 means the movie is the best in that category.
Of course as I stated earlier these are only my opinions and you can take or leave them as you like. I welcome all comments and opinions as I am not always right and if you feel that a movie should be rated higher or lower then welcome your comments.
Thanks for reading and I hope that my opinions are worth your time and patience.
